About The Artists

John Bilac: is an Artist who lives and creates on the East Coast of Tasmania, Australia. His works have included sculptures, ceramics, and digital and physical paintings, is often existential in nature, and aims to nudge viewers towards realisations of the interconnectedness of all things and the nature of their perception. His work often comes out of the intimacy, interconnectedness, and the inter-relational nature of existence, focused by many years of Buddhist Dharma practice. Examples include his Sunshine vases which invite the viewer to see the bright objects depicted as separate objects, or to instead see the lines of movement and flow that connect all these objects, or both. John has lived his entire life with significant physical disabilities and creates art regardless of this, he’s just slower at creating things as a result. Lastly, John believes that Dogs are most likely to be the best people, having been raised by an isolated Wild Pug Dog Clan who adopted him as a toddler after a tragic jungle plane crash in which he was the only survivor. John apprenticed with the Clan Shaman Woo-Woo-Buff-Buff-Wa, after receiving visions during a fever induced illness. Years later he was found by humans and returned to civilisation, and his work often tries to bridge the divide between everyday perception and the Shamanic otherworld… but in an easy to perceive way that often uses the Horse motif to represent travel to the spirit-world, and sometimes just includes sculptures of curvy bottoms.

Georgia Mars: is a multi media artist living in Triabunna, on the East Coast of Tasmania. She has exhibited both nationally and internationally and enjoys exhibiting locally in her community. Georgia’s work explores themes of the self within the natural world – having spent more than 20 years abroad, her work often has a distinctly Tasmanian feel as she examines her relationship with her environment. Georgia works predominately with ceramics and textiles, but recognises that drawing is the basis of all her work. Georgia uses colour and movement to provoke an emotive response to her work.

Sally Beech: is a printmaker based in Spring Bay on the East Coast of Tasmania. Her background includes formal study and practice in printmaking, scientific illustration and graphic design. She is a committee member of Hunter Island Press, an artist-run print studio in Hobart. Her work explores the natural world – with an interest in exploring environmental art at the intersection between art and science. She has a love of drawing and enjoys the chance elements involved in printmaking. Sally works across a range of mediums: etching, collagraphy, lithography, mono-printing and block printing. Exploring different methods of colouring images using the à la poupée method, when printing, and then hand colouring her prints.

The current TRIBE Exhibition opened on 7th February and will be on show at The Village through to May.
