As a consequence of COVID-19 situation and other activities at The Village being curtailed, the Workshop is also closed to the public until further notice.
If you have been to The Village lately you will have seen some changes to the shed area next to the Spring Bay Community Boat Shed. This space is now the home to the Triabunna Community Workshop run by Malcolm and Russell.
The Workshop is open to people at any level of experience. Russell and Malcolm have both built houses, furniture and boats but while neither of them would claim to be experts they would be happy to help as much as they can. New members will be allowed to use any of the machines once it can be satisfied they understand the correct operation and safety measures. A yet to be set hourly fee will go into the kitty to cover wear and tear and consumables.
The Workshop will also be open to take on repairs or construction jobs if materials etc. are covered by the user. A donation to the Village for whatever seems fair for the organisers’ time will be required, and all members we will encouraged to consider making things for sale that could also raise funds for improvements/upgrades over time.
The machinery in the Workshop (so far) includes a table saw, thicknesser, jointer, bandsaw, drum sander, a small lathe, a drill press and various work benches, assembly tables and a limited assortment of hand tools We have an externally ducted dust extraction system.
The nominal opening time for the Workshop is Wednesdays 10.00am to 2.00pm. but the workshop is currently in use most days so people can drop in, or ring Russell or Malcolm to arrange a time for an introduction/induction.
Finally we would welcome any donations of surplus tools and recyclable materials but please ring or call in first to discuss
